Vivo Energy Windhoek Marathon Funds New Sanitation Hub in Mix Settlement. Over 3,000 runners participated in the Vivo Energy Windhoek Marathon, contributing to a significant community development initiative. The City of Windhoek, in collaboration with Vivo Energy Namibia, officially launched a sanitation improvement project at Mix Settlement today.
The 2024 marathon raised N$296,358.55, which will be directed toward constructing a new Sanitation Hub in the area. Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Windhoek Mayor Cllr. Ndeshihafela Larandja highlighted that the planned facility will feature eight toilets, two urinals, and two water points.
The new sanitation hub aims to improve conditions in Mix Settlement, which currently has three existing hubs serving approximately 1,400 homes. The total project cost is estimated at N$600,000, with the Windhoek Residents Mayoral Trust Fund pledging N$50,000. The City of Windhoek will cover the remaining expenses to ensure completion.
This initiative follows the 2023 Vivo Energy Windhoek Marathon, where proceeds were utilized to purchase 572 books for Nathanael Maxuilili and Greenwell Matongo Community Libraries, reinforcing the event’s commitment to social development.
Lazarus Nafidi, Corporate Communications Manager at Vivo Energy Namibia, announced that the 2025 Vivo Energy Windhoek Marathon will be officially launched on 28 February 2025. Registration will be open from that date until 30 April, with the marathon scheduled for 24 May 2025.
The annual marathon continues to make a meaningful impact by addressing community needs, from education to sanitation, through collaborative efforts between corporate and municipal stakeholders.
