NUST and TUT Strengthen Ties to Advance Research and Innovation in Africa

NUST and TUT Strengthen Ties to Advance Research and Innovation in Africa. In a significant step toward fostering regional collaboration in higher education, the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST) hosted a delegation from South Africa’s Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) this week. The visit focused on strengthening partnerships in research, innovation, and transformative learning.

The TUT delegation, led by Dr. Vathiswa Papu-Zamxaka, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Research, Innovation, and Engagement, engaged in discussions with NUST’s Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Research, Innovation, and Partnerships, Prof. Colin Stanley. Together, they explored ways to enhance academic cooperation and leverage Africa’s vast potential in science and technology

As part of the visit, the delegation toured key NUST facilities, including the Namibia Energy Institute (NEI), which focuses on harnessing the country’s rich renewable energy resources. They also visited the High-Tech Transfer Plaza Select (HTTPS), a hub dedicated to bridging the gap between academia and industry through technological innovation.

A highlight of the tour was the Living Laboratory Research Centre in Groot Aub, located outside Windhoek. This facility is dedicated to utilizing Namibia’s renewable energy resources—solar, wind, and biomass—to develop sustainable energy solutions. The discussions centered on how both institutions can collaborate in advancing research projects that drive real-world impact.

The visit underscored the shared commitment of NUST and TUT to fostering innovation beyond the classroom. By promoting cross-border partnerships, both universities aim to enhance knowledge exchange and technological advancements that benefit not just Namibia and South Africa, but the broader African continent.
