NORED Completes Solar Minigrid Training Ahead of Kunene Project

NORED Completes Solar Minigrid Training Ahead of Kunene Project. The Northern Regional Electricity Distributor (NORED) team has successfully completed an intensive week-long training on the operation and maintenance of a solar-powered minigrid. The program, facilitated by the Namibia Energy Institute (NEI) at NUST, was conducted in collaboration with the Technical University of Ulm’s Institute for Decentralised Electrification, Entrepreneurship, and Education (ID-EEE) from Germany.

The training, funded by GIZ, is part of efforts to equip NORED personnel with the technical expertise needed for the upcoming 300kW solar-powered minigrid project in Puros, Kunene Region. The minigrid is expected to improve energy access and sustainability in the area, reducing reliance on traditional electricity sources.

Participants received hands-on experience in system management, troubleshooting, and sustainable energy solutions, ensuring they are well-prepared to oversee the minigrid’s efficient operation and long-term functionality.

This initiative aligns with Namibia’s broader renewable energy development goals, emphasizing decentralized electrification as a means to power remote communities. By strengthening local capacity, the project aims to support the country’s energy security and sustainability objectives.
