New Councillors Sworn into Windhoek Municipal Council. The Municipal Council of Windhoek has officially welcomed two new councillors to its ranks following a swearing-in ceremony held earlier today. Councillor Matheus Amakali Shoongo, representing the SWAPO Party, and Councillor Maitjituavi Kavetu, representing the AR June 16 Movement, took their oaths of office as they stepped into their new roles on the city’s governing body.
Their appointment fills the two vacancies left by former councillors Prof. Job Amupanda and Sam Nujoma, who recently moved on to national and regional leadership roles. The swearing-in process was conducted in accordance with Section 13 of the Local Authorities Act, 1992 (Act 23 of 1992), as amended, which governs the procedures for filling vacant seats on local authority councils.
The ceremony marked an important moment for the City of Windhoek, as both new councillors are expected to bring renewed energy and focus to the ongoing work of city governance. The council plays a vital role in overseeing municipal development, delivering essential services, and representing the interests of Windhoek’s residents.
City officials extended their congratulations and well-wishes to the incoming councillors, expressing hope for productive collaboration and forward-looking leadership in service of the capital’s residents.
