NamPower, through its Foundation, has once again demonstrated its unwavering commitment to supporting sports excellence and inclusivity. The company awarded a generous N$1.2 million to the Namibia Paralympic Team in recognition of their outstanding performance at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games held in France this past August.
Celebrating Excellence and Sportsmanship
The Namibian Paralympic athletes have consistently brought pride and international recognition to the nation with their remarkable achievements and sportsmanship. Speaking at the handover ceremony, NamPower Managing Director Kahenge Haulofu lauded the athletes, guides, and coaches for their contributions to Namibia’s global sports legacy.
“NamPower is privileged to be affiliated with this medal-achieving sports body and its exceptional athletes, guides, and coaches, who have secured Namibia international recognition,” Haulofu remarked.
Rewards for Excellence
Gold and bronze medalist Lahja Ishitile and her guide, Sem Shimanda, have been awarded N$14 583.33 per month each for the next two years. This financial support acknowledges their incredible dedication and achievements at the Paris 2024 Paralympics.
Non-medalists and their guides will each receive a monthly stipend of N$2 135.42 over the same period, ensuring continued support for their sports careers and personal development. Additionally, the team’s coaches were honored with a once-off reward of N$60,000 each, recognizing their crucial role in guiding the athletes to success.
Building on Past Support
This marks the second time NamPower has rewarded the Paralympic team for their international accomplishments. Similar rewards were given following the team’s stellar performance at the 2021 Tokyo Paralympic Games in Japan, further cementing NamPower’s commitment to fostering excellence in disability sports.
Supporting Disability Sports Namibia
In addition to the athlete rewards, the NamPower Foundation has extended its support to Disability Sports Namibia and its affiliates with a sponsorship of N$1.5 million for their 2024/2025 activities. This funding will enable the development and sustainability of disability sports programs across the country, ensuring continued opportunities for athletes to excel.
