Namibia’s Central Bank Governor Joins Global Dialogue on Central Bank Credibility in Maputo

Namibia’s Central Bank Governor Joins Global Dialogue on Central Bank Credibility in Maputo. The Governor of the Bank of Namibia, Mr. Johannes !Gawaxab, participated in the International Symposium hosted at the Mozambique-China Cultural Centre this past weekend. The event marked the 50th anniversary of Banco de Moçambique and brought together central bank governors from Africa, Europe, and Asia under the theme “Credibility of Central Banks and Monetary Policy.”

The symposium focused on critical pillars that underpin the effectiveness of central banks—credibility, independence, and sound monetary policy. These elements are widely regarded as essential to ensuring long-term economic stability and public trust in financial institutions.

Governor !Gawaxab joined his counterparts in exploring how central banks can maintain policy credibility in a rapidly evolving global economic landscape. The discussions also addressed the importance of policy consistency, transparency, and institutional independence in preserving financial stability across borders.

Participation in such high-level engagements allows the Bank of Namibia to refine its policy frameworks in line with international best practices. It also strengthens cross-border collaboration aimed at enhancing regional and global financial resilience.

Speaking on the importance of these engagements, the Bank highlighted its commitment to safeguarding Namibia’s economic stability, maintaining price stability, and upholding the integrity of its financial system.

The symposium served as both a reflective moment on the progress made over five decades by Banco de Moçambique and a strategic platform for central banks to align on shared priorities amid global economic uncertainty.
