Namibian Influencers Unite for Responsible Digital Culture

Namibian Influencers Unite for Responsible Digital Culture. A national gathering of nearly 100 Namibian influencers took place in Windhoek as part of the Ethical Use of Social Media Campaign Mission, held from 27 to 29 November 2025. Organised by Club de Madrid in partnership with the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology and JCI Namibia, the Influencer Sundowner served as a platform to promote responsible, values-driven online engagement.

The event encouraged influencers to reflect on how their digital presence shapes public dialogue and social behaviour. Participants discussed the responsibilities attached to online influence and explored ways to create safer, more inclusive digital spaces for all Namibians.

Members of the Women and Youth Democracy Engagement (WYDE) initiative, including Hon Joanah Mamombe, Asiwaju Seun Fakorede and Yvonne Wamucii, took part in the mission. They were joined by Minister of Information and Communication Technology Emma Theofelus, with former Costa Rican President Laura Chinchilla Miranda contributing a video message. Their involvement underscored the mission’s dual focus: empowering influencers to champion ethical online culture and supporting young women in politics to build digital resilience.

Government representatives emphasized the importance of fostering ethical digital practices to reduce online harm, protect democratic values, and ensure that vulnerable groups, particularly young women in public life, can participate safely in digital spaces.

The event concluded with the signing of the Influencer Pledge, a public commitment to responsible communication, respectful dialogue and truth-driven content creation. The pledge represents a milestone in efforts to cultivate a healthier and more trustworthy online information environment in Namibia.
