Namibia Set to Launch National Anti-GBV Campaign in Windhoek

Namibia Set to Launch National Anti-GBV Campaign in Windhoek. With just six days remaining, the Government of Namibia is preparing to launch a national campaign aimed at addressing gender-based violence (GBV). The #EndGBVNamibia campaign will officially kick off on 04 June 2025 at UN Plaza in Windhoek, led by Hon. Emma Theofelus, Minister of Information and Communication Technology, and Hon. Dr. Doreen Sioka, Minister of Gender Equality and Child Welfare.

The launch marks the beginning of a six-month, nationwide campaign designed to mobilise citizens, communities, and institutions across all 14 regions of the country in the fight against GBV. The campaign seeks to spark dialogue, build awareness, and identify sustainable solutions to one of Namibia’s most pressing social challenges.

According to organisers, #EndGBVNamibia will involve a variety of community activations, public engagements, media outreach efforts, and educational initiatives. The goal is not only to raise awareness but also to encourage collective responsibility and prompt action at all levels of society.

Speaking ahead of the launch, campaign representatives emphasised the importance of collaboration across government sectors, civil society, traditional authorities, and the general public in tackling GBV effectively. The joint leadership by the ICT and Gender ministries reflects a strategic approach to using digital platforms, media, and community mobilisation in spreading the campaign’s message.

The UN Plaza launch event is expected to attract a diverse audience, including youth groups, activists, government officials, and members of the diplomatic community.

With gender-based violence continuing to impact lives across Namibia, the #EndGBVNamibia campaign signals a strong and unified national stance in seeking long-term, transformative solutions to end the cycle of violence.
