Namibia Rolls Out 36 New Ambulances in Push to Strengthen Emergency Care

Namibia Rolls Out 36 New Ambulances in Push to Strengthen Emergency Care. In a significant boost to Namibia’s healthcare delivery system, the Ministry of Health and Social Services has commissioned 36 new ambulances worth N$32 million. The official handover was led by Minister of Health and Social Services, Hon. Dr. Esperance Luvindao.

The ambulances will be distributed across all regions, aiming to improve emergency response and accessibility for patients in need of urgent care. Speaking at the commissioning event, Dr. Luvindao emphasized that these vehicles are more than a logistical upgrade, they are a critical step toward saving lives and enhancing the capacity of the national healthcare system.

The Minister also outlined the Ministry’s vision for future advancements in emergency medical services. Plans include exploring the acquisition of smart ambulances equipped with 5G connectivity, AI-assisted emergency tools, augmented reality systems for paramedics, and integrated smart monitoring systems, all aimed at enhancing diagnosis, communication, and remote patient care during transit.

Dr. Luvindao further expressed the Ministry’s ambition to one day commission Namibia’s own state-owned air ambulances, ensuring that emergency response is not hindered by distance or terrain.

Crucially, the Minister stressed the importance of vehicle upkeep. “Procurement is only the beginning. These ambulances must be maintained consistently to ensure longevity and efficient use,” she noted, calling on regional offices to prioritize care of the fleet.
