Namibia has been recognized as one of Africa’s most secure countries, ranking 4th on a recent list compiled by Altezza Travel, a destination management company based in Tanzania. The top spots were claimed by Mauritius (1st), Ghana (2nd), and Zambia (3rd), with Namibia securing its place just behind them. The Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism (MEFT) expressed pride in this achievement, emphasizing how it strengthens the nation’s international reputation as a premier travel destination.
“This ranking reflects the peaceful nature of Namibians and underscores the collective efforts to maintain peace and stability,” said MEFT spokesperson Romeo Muyunda. “It enhances our global image and further solidifies Namibia’s status as a prime destination for travelers.”
Safety is a critical consideration for travelers, and Namibia’s position on the list is a testament to the country’s commitment to creating a secure environment for both locals and visitors. According to Muyunda, this recognition will likely lead to more tourists choosing Namibia as their next destination and could inspire global recommendations for travel to the country.
Despite being ranked fourth, the Ministry is optimistic about Namibia’s potential to climb even higher in future evaluations. Efforts are already underway to enhance safety, with the ongoing tourism safety campaign spearheaded by the Ministry in collaboration with the Namibian Police, tour operators, and regional councils.
Muyunda emphasized the importance of prioritizing peace and stability, not only for boosting tourism but also for attracting investors who can contribute to Namibia’s economic growth. “The ranking is proof that our collective efforts are being recognized, but we must remain steadfast in maintaining peace as it is crucial for the country’s development,” he concluded.
Altezza Travel’s rankings were based on a review of leading global studies, official statistics, and citizen perceptions of personal safety.
