Namibia Launches ICT Education Transformation Initiative in Collaboration with UNESCO. The Ministry of Education, Arts, and Culture, in partnership with UNESCO Namibia, has officially launched the ICT Transforming Education in Africa – Phase III initiative. The launch event took place at Arebbusch Travel Lodge in Windhoek, marking a significant step in integrating digital technology into Namibia’s education system.
This initiative is part of the UNESCO-Korean Funds-in-Trust (KFIT) program, which aims to enhance education across Sub-Saharan Africa through information and communication technology (ICT). The program seeks to bridge the digital divide by improving access to digital learning resources, strengthening teachers’ capabilities, and aligning education policies with technological advancements.
The key objectives of the project include:
- Establishing a national harmonized ICT in education platform with curriculum-aligned content.
- Enhancing teachers’ digital capacity to effectively integrate technology into their teaching methods.
- Improving learners’ digital skills to better prepare them for a technology-driven world.
- Developing and refining ICT in education policies to ensure sustainable implementation.
The initiative will be facilitated by the National Institute for Educational Development (NIED), which will oversee the implementation of digital education strategies and ensure alignment with national education goals.
The launch of Phase III follows previous efforts to enhance digital education in Namibia, reinforcing the government’s commitment to modernizing learning environments. By leveraging ICT, the initiative aims to create inclusive, high-quality educational opportunities that cater to both educators and students.
As digital transformation continues to shape the global education landscape, this project represents a crucial step toward equipping Namibia’s education sector with the necessary tools and policies to foster innovation and accessibility in learning.
