Namibia Joins Regional Dialogue on Advancing Gender Equality at SADC Ministers’ Meeting

Namibia Joins Regional Dialogue on Advancing Gender Equality at SADC Ministers’ Meeting. Namibia, represented by Honourable Emma Kantema, has joined over 150 delegates at the SADC Ministers of Gender and Women Affairs meeting currently underway in Harare, Zimbabwe. Running from June 24 to 27, the high-level gathering brings together leaders from across Southern Africa to review progress and strengthen collaboration on gender equality and women’s empowerment.

The meeting provides a platform for member states to assess implementation of regional commitments and share innovative strategies to address persistent gender disparities. Delegates are engaging on a range of key issues including access to education, gender-based violence, women’s economic inclusion, and representation in leadership.

Hon. Kantema reaffirmed Namibia’s commitment to working with fellow SADC nations to advance women’s rights and ensure equal opportunities for all. “This forum enables us to align our efforts and learn from one another. Namibia is committed to fostering inclusive policies that uplift women and girls in every sector of our society,” she stated.

Participants also explored opportunities to strengthen gender-responsive budgeting, improve legal protections for women, and promote female participation in decision-making processes at all levels.

For Namibia, the meeting comes at a crucial time, as the country continues to roll out initiatives aimed at closing gender gaps and addressing social and economic inequalities.
