Namibia Hosts First Commonwealth Youth Council Dialogue, Empowering Young Leaders Now

Namibia Hosts First Commonwealth Youth Council Dialogue, Empowering Young Leaders Now. The inaugural Commonwealth Youth Council (CYC) Consultative Dialogue officially opened in Windhoek this week, marking a significant milestone in global youth engagement. The event was launched by Hon. Sanet Steenkamp, Namibia’s Minister of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture.

In her keynote address, Minister Steenkamp warmly welcomed over 100 youth delegates and leaders from across the Commonwealth, urging them to see themselves not as guests, but as co-creators of a sustainable and inclusive future.

The Minister called for stronger youth systems, more inclusive platforms, and policies that place young people at the heart of national and global development. She emphasized the power of unity, innovation, and collective action in addressing shared challenges, from climate change and inequality to education and employment.

The Consultative Dialogue provides a platform for young leaders to collaborate, share ideas, and shape recommendations that will inform the future direction of the Commonwealth Youth Council, the official voice of young people across 56 member states.

Over the coming days, participants will engage in a series of interactive sessions, policy workshops, and strategic planning meetings, all aimed at empowering youth to play an active role in development.

The event highlights Namibia’s ongoing commitment to youth empowerment, international collaboration, and inclusive governance.
