Namibia and Japan Strengthen Diplomatic Ties Through High-Level Engagement. Japan’s Ambassador to Namibia, His Excellency Shinichi Asazuma, met with Honourable Selma Ashipala-Musavyi, Minister of International Relations and Trade, on April 2, 2025, for a diplomatic courtesy call.

During the meeting, Ambassador Asazuma extended his congratulations to Minister Ashipala-Musavyi on her recent appointment and reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with Namibia. The discussions focused on areas of mutual interest, aligning Japan’s development initiatives with Namibia’s national priorities as outlined in the SWAPO Party Manifesto.

The Minister expressed gratitude for Japan’s continued support in various sectors and highlighted the significance of upcoming engagements, particularly the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9) scheduled for August 2025. The conference is expected to further enhance collaboration between Japan and African nations, including Namibia, in key areas such as trade, investment, and infrastructure development.

The engagement underscores the strong diplomatic ties between the two nations and sets the stage for further cooperation in fostering economic growth and sustainable development.
