Namdeb and NamPower Partner to Drive Renewable Energy Integration. In a significant move to bolster Namibia’s transition to renewable energy, Namdeb and NamPower have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at advancing the development and integration of renewable electricity into both the national grid and Namdeb’s mining operations.
The agreement was formalised yesterday, 7 May 2025, at NamPower’s Head Office in Windhoek, with Namdeb CEO Riaan Burger and NamPower Managing Director Kahenge S. Haulofu leading the signing ceremony.
This collaboration underscores Namdeb’s ongoing commitment to achieving carbon neutrality across its operations, while contributing to Namibia’s broader climate and energy goals. By working together, the two entities will explore and facilitate renewable electricity projects that are aligned with national development priorities and sustainability objectives.
NamPower’s Managing Director, Kahenge Haulofu, emphasised the importance of strategic partnerships in achieving the country’s renewable energy targets. “Through this MoU, we are strengthening our collective capacity to deliver energy solutions that are sustainable, reliable, and beneficial to all Namibians,” he said.
The signing was attended by senior representatives from both organisations, including engineers, legal advisors, and corporate affairs leaders, reflecting the multidisciplinary collaboration required to achieve the goals outlined in the MoU.
The agreement marks a key step forward in Namibia’s journey toward a greener energy future, with the potential to shape sustainable mining practices and enhance energy security for the nation.
