Motorists Advised to Expect Delays During Windhoek Graduation Ceremonies

Motorists Advised to Expect Delays During Windhoek Graduation Ceremonies. The University of Namibia (UNAM) has issued a public advisory ahead of its upcoming graduation ceremonies in Windhoek, scheduled for Thursday, 24 April, and Friday, 25 April 2025. The ceremonies, taking place at the Mercure Hotel, are expected to cause increased traffic congestion in parts of the city.

Motorists are advised to anticipate delays between 06:00 and 12:00 and again from 14:00 to 18:00 on both days. Roads expected to be affected include:

  • Auas Road
  • Hosea Kutako Drive
  • Mandume Ndemufayo Avenue

Due to ongoing upgrades on Auas Road, the university has also warned that open parking along the route will be limited. Drivers are encouraged to consider alternative routes or adjust travel times to avoid potential congestion.

To ease traffic flow and minimize disruptions, the university has made several recommendations for those attending or passing through the area:

  • Arrange to be dropped off at the Auas Road entrance
  • Use ride-hailing services such as Yango or LEFA
  • Carpool with friends or family
  • Use limited parking on Aviation Road cautiously and responsibly
  • Follow the instructions of traffic officers who will be stationed on-site

Graduation ceremonies are significant events for graduates and their families, and the university aims to ensure that the celebration proceeds smoothly for all involved. UNAM has expressed its appreciation to the public for their cooperation and understanding during this time.
