The Ministry of Mines and Energy has released its fuel price review for January 2025, bringing good news for Namibian motorists. Despite a mixed bag of over- and under-recoveries in fuel pricing, the Ministry has decided to maintain the current fuel prices across all categories.
Fuel Recovery Analysis
The Ministry recorded the following in its monthly assessment:
• Petrol: Over-recoveries of 17.847 cents per litre.
• 50ppm Diesel: Under-recoveries of 37.591 cents per litre.
• 10ppm Diesel: Under-recoveries of 28.637 cents per litre.
While over-recoveries generally suggest room for price reductions and under-recoveries signal potential increases, the Ministry has opted to keep prices stable for the benefit of consumers.
Unchanged Prices
For January 2025, the fuel prices in Walvis Bay will remain as follows:
• Petrol: N$20.25 per litre.
• 50ppm Diesel: N$19.72 per litre.
• 10ppm Diesel: N$19.82 per litre.
This stability ensures that consumers can plan their expenses without any immediate financial strain caused by fluctuating fuel prices.
A Message to Namibians
The Ministry extended warm festive season greetings to all Namibians, fuel consumers, and stakeholders, wishing everyone a cheerful and prosperous 2025. As the country heads into the new year, the Ministry also urged motorists to prioritize safety on the roads.
“Travel and drive safely, putting your safety and that of other road users first,” the statement concluded.
By maintaining fuel prices, the Ministry aims to provide some financial predictability and relief as Namibians transition into the new year, ensuring that both individuals and businesses can look forward to 2025 with optimism.
