Minister Steenkamp Assesses Flood Impact on Education in Zambezi Region. Hon. Dr. Sanet L. Steenkamp, Minister of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture, is currently leading a delegation in the Zambezi Region to assess the flood situation affecting schools and learners.

Her visit began at the Zambezi Regional Council offices, where she met with Director Mr. Beaven Walubita and his team to discuss the extent of the challenges and possible interventions. The floods have significantly disrupted the education sector, prompting urgent measures to safeguard learners and ensure continuity of learning.

The Ministry, working in collaboration with the Office of the Prime Minister, is exploring the most effective ways to support affected communities. Key priorities include the provision of temporary shelter facilities, nutritional support, and essential bedding to protect the well-being and safety of learners displaced by the floods.

Dr. Steenkamp emphasized that the Ministry’s immediate focus is on ensuring that learners remain safe and supported during this difficult period. She noted that education is a critical pillar of national development, and disruptions caused by natural disasters must be met with swift, coordinated responses.

The visit also underscores the importance of intergovernmental collaboration in addressing emergencies. By working closely with regional authorities and national stakeholders, the Ministry aims to deliver practical solutions that mitigate the impact of the floods on education infrastructure and learner welfare.

The assessment in Zambezi forms part of broader efforts to strengthen resilience within Namibia’s education system, ensuring that schools and learners can recover quickly from environmental challenges. The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the rights of learners and maintaining access to education, even in times of crisis.
