MIME Charts Strategic Path for Sustainable Growth at Annual Retreat in Swakopmund. The Ministry of Industries, Mines and Energy (MIME) has officially commenced its Annual Strategic Planning Retreat in Swakopmund, running from 14 to 17 April 2025. This high-level engagement aims to evaluate past progress and establish a renewed strategic direction for the Ministry over the next six years.
The retreat will inform the development of MIME’s Strategic Plan for 2025/2026 to 2030/2031, the Annual Plan for 2025/2026, and individual Performance Agreements for the Minister, Deputy Minister, and Executive Directors.
In his keynote address, Hon. Natangue Ithete, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industries, Mines and Energy, emphasized the importance of aligning the Ministry’s future actions with national development goals. He called for practical interventions that reflect measurable performance indicators across key focus areas.
These include sustainable mining practices, industrial development and value addition, and the optimal use of Namibia’s natural resources. The Minister also reiterated the importance of prioritizing energy security, promoting renewable energy such as solar, wind, hydro, and green hydrogen, and ensuring broad and sustainable access to energy to stimulate economic development and employment.
He further stressed the need to support responsible exploration and development of the country’s resources, while creating an environment that is attractive to both local and international investors.
Participants at the retreat include senior ministry officials, technical experts, and strategic planning advisors. The outcomes of the discussions are expected to shape MIME’s policies, programmes, and project implementations for the medium to long term.
