Government and UNAM Delegation Visits Kalimbeza Rice Project to Boost Food SSecurity. The Minister of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture, Hon. Sanet L. Steenkamp, together with representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Land Reform and a delegation from the University of Namibia (UNAM), visited the Kalimbeza Rice Project in the Zambezi Region on Thursday afternoon. The visit is part of a coordinated effort to assess and revitalise key agricultural facilities in support of Namibia’s national food security agenda.
During the visit, the delegation engaged with Kalimbeza Rice Project personnel, including Farm Manager Patrick Kompeli and Agricultural Technician Ndamona Ndeliwana Kamati. The team provided detailed insights into the project’s operations, outlining the challenges faced in rice production and identifying opportunities for scaling output to meet domestic demand.
Hon. Steenkamp emphasized the importance of strengthening agricultural initiatives as a means to ensure sustainable food production and enhance national self-sufficiency.
