FirstRand Namibia and PETROFUND Partner to Strengthen Oil and Gas Capacity. FirstRand Namibia has entered into a strategic partnership with the Petroleum Training and Education Fund (PETROFUND) through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at boosting local participation in the country’s emerging oil and gas sector.

The agreement focuses on capacity building, training, and skills development to ensure Namibians are well-prepared to take part in the growing industry. With major oil and gas discoveries placing Namibia on the global energy map, the partnership seeks to create pathways for citizens to actively contribute to and benefit from the sector’s expansion.

Speaking at the signing, representatives from both organizations highlighted the importance of equipping the workforce with the necessary expertise to support the industry’s growth. By providing targeted educational opportunities and professional training, the initiative will strengthen Namibia’s ability to develop a skilled pool of talent, fostering greater local ownership and long-term sustainability within the oil and gas value chain.

The collaboration is expected to benefit students, professionals, and enterprises by offering opportunities for specialized learning and development. For businesses, the partnership signals a growing alignment between financial institutions and educational bodies in preparing Namibia’s economy for the demands of a globally competitive energy sector.

As Namibia positions itself as a future energy hub, initiatives like the FirstRand–PETROFUND partnership mark a significant step in ensuring inclusive growth. By empowering Namibians with knowledge and skills, the country is taking proactive measures to secure a stronger role for its people in one of the most promising industries of the decade.
