Doman and Suren Triumph at Windhoek Pedal Power Race. Michelle Doman and Rodger Suren claimed victory in the elite women’s and men’s categories at the second event of the 2025 Nedbank Windhoek Pedal Power Race Series, held on Sunday at Copper Kettle in Windhoek.
Doman secured first place in a thrilling sprint finish, edging out Louise Breed, who finished second, and Delsia Janse van Vuuren, who took third. Similarly, Suren emerged victorious in a sprint finish, beating Christiaan van Rensburg into second place, with Kevin Lowe finishing third.
Reflecting on his win, Suren expressed his excitement about racing at Copper Kettle after a two-year hiatus. “We started off easy, but the pace picked up with constant attacks. A group of nine riders broke away, with Drikus Coetzee and Van Rensburg leading the charge. Unfortunately, Coetzee got a flat tyre, leaving Van Rensburg in the lead. By lap seven, we caught up with him, and the race came down to a sprint where I gave it my all to cross the line first,” he said.
Suren noted that the flat course and cool weather made for an enjoyable race but admitted feeling the strain, especially between laps four and eight.
Stefanus Feris, a representative of the Windhoek Pedal Power Road Cycling Club, said they were pleased to have the Copper Kettle route back in action after a two-year break and were impressed by the strong participation.
Selma Kaulinge, Nedbank Namibia’s Communication and Public Relations Manager, praised the organisers for a well-executed event, noting the impressive turnout of 216 cyclists.
“This turnout shows how cycling continues to grow in Namibia, capturing the hearts of people from all walks of life. Congratulations to the Windhoek Pedal Power Road Cycling Club for hosting such a successful event,” Kaulinge said.
She encouraged the Namibian Cycling Federation and local clubs to continue their efforts in making the sport accessible to everyone, emphasizing Nedbank’s commitment to promoting healthy lifestyles and community involvement.
The next race in the Nedbank Windhoek Pedal Power Race Series is set for Sunday, 26 January, at the Dobrã Loops.
