City of Windhoek Strengthens Regional Ties at Opuwo Annual Trade Fair Opening. The City of Windhoek reaffirmed its commitment to regional cooperation and economic development by participating in the official opening of the Opuwo Annual Trade Fair, held today in the Kunene Region.
Representing the municipality was Councillor Alderwoman Fransina Kahungu, who joined local and regional leaders in marking the start of one of Opuwo’s key economic events. The City’s involvement underscores its long-standing partnership with the Opuwo Town Council, established through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) initially signed in 2015 and renewed earlier this year.
The MoU promotes collaboration in various areas, including local governance, economic development, and service delivery. Through this framework, the two municipalities continue to share expertise, align on development goals, and explore joint opportunities that benefit their communities.
The opening ceremony was officiated by the Right Honourable Prime Minister of the Republic of Namibia, Dr. Tjitunga Elijah Ngurare. In his keynote address, Dr. Ngurare commended efforts to boost regional economies and encouraged continued collaboration among local authorities.
Hon. Vipuakuje Muharukua, Governor of the Kunene Region, also addressed attendees, emphasizing the region’s emerging role as an economic hub and the importance of strategic partnerships in unlocking local potential.
The City of Windhoek’s participation reflects its broader vision of fostering unity and inclusive growth across Namibia. By supporting platforms such as the Opuwo Trade Fair, the City reinforces its dedication to empowering communities and contributing to national development through inter-regional cooperation.
The trade fair continues to serve as a vital space for entrepreneurs, businesses, and stakeholders to network, showcase products, and explore new opportunities for growth and innovation within the Kunene Region and beyond.
