City of Windhoek Responds to NamWater Supply Disruption with Emergency Measures. The City of Windhoek has announced a temporary interruption of the NamWater supply following a breakdown in the pipeline that delivers water from the Von Bach Treatment Plant to the capital.

According to a public notice issued on April 23, the disruption occurred near the Eisebhenien road bridge and the B1 road. The incident has affected the city’s primary water supply from NamWater, with authorities currently conducting a preliminary investigation to assess the extent of damage to the pump line. The duration of the interruption remains uncertain at this stage.

In response, the City has activated contingency plans to mitigate the impact of the disruption. Efforts are underway to reinstate the Windhoek Borehole Supply Scheme, which had previously been decommissioned due to sufficient supply from surface water sources. It is anticipated that the borehole scheme will resume full operation by the afternoon of April 24

City officials have urged residents to use water sparingly during this period in order to conserve the available supply and prevent possible shortages. “We kindly urge all residents in Windhoek to use water sparingly during this period to avoid running out of water,” the notice reads.

The City of Windhoek will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as more information becomes available. Residents are encouraged to stay informed through official communication channels.
