City of Windhoek Mandates Registration for Electricity Redistributors and Resellers

City of Windhoek Mandates Registration for Electricity Redistributors and Resellers. The City of Windhoek Electricity Department has issued a public notice requiring all electricity redistributors and resellers to complete a mandatory registration process. The registration applies to 11KV clients operating their own networks (redistributors) and clients managing private sub-metering for their customers (resellers).

According to the notice, registration is necessary to ensure compliance with the Electricity Act, 2007, which governs the redistribution and reselling of electricity. Failure to register by the deadline of April 30, 2025, will result in penalties.

Registration forms can be requested via email at [email protected], and all completed forms must be submitted physically in their original format to the City of Windhoek Electricity Department.

The department has also announced that, starting in March 2025, only registered sub-metering contractors will be permitted to perform sub-metering work within the City of Windhoek’s licensed area. A registry of approved resellers and sub-metering contractors will be maintained and made available to City of Windhoek clients seeking these services.

The Electricity Department emphasizes that all registered redistributors and resellers must adhere to regulatory requirements. Non-compliance with the applicable laws and regulations may result in penalty charges.

For further details on the registration process and compliance requirements, electricity redistributors and resellers are encouraged to contact the City of Windhoek Electricity Department.
