City of Windhoek Intensifies Efforts to Clear Riverbeds Amid Ongoing Rainfall. The City of Windhoek has ramped up its restoration and maintenance efforts following continuous rainfall that has impacted several areas across the capital. With public safety and infrastructure preservation as top priorities, city teams are actively attending to affected zones to minimise the risks associated with heavy rain.
Earlier today, municipal maintenance crews were deployed to the intersection of Florence Nightingale Street and Shanghai Street in Khomasdal, where they worked to clear debris from the Gammams River. This operation forms part of a broader initiative to ensure that riverbeds remain unobstructed, allowing water to flow freely and reducing the likelihood of flooding.
“Keeping our waterways clear is essential in preventing water build-up and possible damage to nearby areas,” said officials from the City of Windhoek. “Our teams are committed to maintaining these efforts throughout the rainy season.”
Despite ongoing showers, restoration work continues across various parts of Windhoek, with teams assessing infrastructure and addressing problem areas as they arise. Residents are urged to remain vigilant and avoid crossing flooded riverbeds, whether on foot or by vehicle.
The City of Windhoek has also called on the public to assist by reporting any blocked stormwater drains or locations requiring immediate attention. Reports can be directed to the Customer Contact Centre by calling 061-290 3777, 061-290 2740, or 061-290 2445.
