Bank of Namibia Pays Tribute to Founding President Dr. Sam Nujoma. The Bank of Namibia (BoN) staff gathered today to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Sam Shafiishuna Nujoma, Namibia’s Founding President and Father of the Nation. His leadership played a crucial role in shaping the country’s financial institutions, ensuring both national identity and financial sovereignty.
Dr. Nujoma was instrumental in establishing the Bank of Namibia, laying the foundation for a stable and independent financial system. His contributions remain deeply embedded in the institution’s history and the country’s broader economic framework.
Speaking at the remembrance event, Governor Johannes !Gawaxab reflected on Dr. Nujoma’s impact, describing him as a leader who secured Namibia’s liberty, shaped its unity, and placed the nation above all else. His vision continues to guide Namibia’s economic and financial policies.
Dr. Nujoma’s influence is also recognized in the country’s currency. His portrait appears on the N$10 and N$20 banknotes, honoring his role in securing Namibia’s independence. The N$10 Commemorative Coin acknowledges his contributions to the establishment of the central bank. Additionally, the N$30 Commemorative Banknote, issued on Namibia’s 30th Independence Anniversary, celebrates three decades of nation-building and leadership transitions.
