Agri-PV Outreach Programme Educates Namibian Students on Renewable Energy. A two-day Agri-PV outreach programme recently took place in northern Namibia, introducing learners to the potential of combining agriculture and solar energy. The initiative engaged students from Onawa Secondary School, Nuuyoma Secondary School, and Shaanika Nashilongo Secondary School, aiming to foster awareness of renewable energy and sustainable farming practices.
The programme, part of an ongoing Agri-PV pilot project, provided 60 students with insights into photovoltaics (PV) and agrivoltaics—a system that integrates solar panels with agricultural production. This approach maximizes land use efficiency by allowing crops to grow beneath solar panels while generating clean energy.
Through interactive sessions, learners explored the science behind solar energy, its applications in agriculture, and its role in addressing energy and food security challenges. The outreach initiative aimed to inspire young minds to consider careers in renewable energy and sustainable farming, reinforcing the importance of innovation in Namibia’s agricultural sector.
