Namibia Sports Commission Cancels Youth Games Trials

Namibia Sports Commission Cancels Youth Games TTrials. The Namibia Sports Commission (NSC) has announced the cancellation of the planned second phase of the National Youth Games trials for football, boxing, and netball, which were scheduled to run from today until Sunday.

This decision follows the recent hosting of trials for volleyball and basketball in Ondangwa, held from last Saturday to Tuesday, where teams were selected to represent Namibia at the Region Five Youth Games in Maputo, Mozambique, later this year in December.

In a statement, the NSC explained that the cancellation was due to unforeseen circumstances and extended apologies to athletes, coaches, officials, parents, and stakeholders. The Commission emphasized that the decision was not taken lightly, acknowledging the disappointment it may cause among those preparing for the trials.

The statement did not confirm whether the cancelled trials would be rescheduled, leaving uncertainty for participants in football, boxing, and netball.

The cancellation marks a setback in preparations for the Region Five Youth Games, where Namibia aims to field competitive teams across multiple sporting codes. The first phase of trials successfully identified athletes for volleyball and basketball, but the absence of football, boxing, and netball trials raises questions about how selections for these disciplines will proceed.
