Namibia’s Beef Industry Strengthens Export Position with N$2.1 Billion Earnings. Namibia’s beef industry generated more than N$2.1 billion in foreign exchange in 2025, reflecting the sector’s resilience and the government’s intensified efforts to safeguard export markets while promoting greater local value addition.
Speaking on the achievement, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Land Reform, Inge Zaamwani, emphasized that Namibia’s access to premium international markets remains a key competitive advantage. “These measures are critical to safeguarding our animal health status and maintaining access to high-value export markets,” she said.
Namibia continues to stand out as the only African country with concurrent beef export access to the United States, China, Norway, and the European Union. This unique position is supported by strict animal health controls and compliance with international standards.
In 2025, more than 319,000 cattle were vaccinated against Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) and nearly 800,000 against Contagious Bovine Pleuropneumonia (CBPP) north of the Veterinary Cordon Fence. These measures underline the government’s commitment to protecting herd health and ensuring the reliability of Namibia’s beef exports.
The report highlights that Namibia’s beef industry is not only a cornerstone of agricultural production but also a vital contributor to foreign exchange earnings and national economic stability. By focusing on both market access and local value addition, the sector is positioned to deliver long-term benefits for farmers, processors, and the wider economy.
As Namibia looks ahead, the combination of strong animal health systems, premium market access, and strategic reforms is expected to further enhance the competitiveness of its beef industry. The government’s proactive stance signals a continued drive to secure Namibia’s reputation as a trusted supplier of high-quality beef to the world.
