Breakwater Offshore Achieves Global Certification Milestone. Namibia’s offshore and energy sector marked a significant achievement this week as Breakwater Offshore Services & Investments announced it has attained full international certification across key operational, safety, and environmental standards.
The Walvis Bay‑based company, which is wholly Namibian‑owned, has been awarded ISO 9001:2015 for quality management, ISO 14001:2015 for environmental management, and ISO 45001:2018 for occupational health and safety. These certifications, issued by Det Norske Veritas, are valid until March 2029 and place Breakwater among companies meeting globally recognized benchmarks.
For Namibia’s industry and local community, the milestone represents more than compliance. It signals the rise of homegrown expertise in a sector traditionally dominated by international players. Breakwater provides a wide range of offshore marine support services, including towing, anchor handling, subsea engineering assistance, offshore supply and logistics, as well as bunkering and refuelling at sea. The company also operates its own fleet, notably the AHTS Atlantic Ranger and OSV Sakawe Surveyor, enhancing its ability to support offshore exploration and production activities along Namibia’s coastline.
In addition to ISO certification, Breakwater holds a Document of Compliance issued with the support of the Directorate of Maritime Affairs, confirming adherence to international maritime requirements under the ISM Code. The company also complies with standards linked to maritime labour, ship and port security, and overall vessel safety.
Managing Director Peter‑John Sylvester described the achievement as a reflection of Breakwater’s commitment to safe, efficient, and responsible operations. “Achieving full ISO certification is a significant milestone for Breakwater. It reflects the systems, discipline, and standards we have implemented,” he said.
This development highlights the importance of building local capacity. Breakwater’s achievement strengthens confidence in Namibian expertise while supporting broader goals of skills development, job creation, and sustainable industry growth
