WBO Orders Rematch After Appeal in Nghutenanye vs Yohanna Global Title Bout

WBO Orders Rematch After Appeal in Nghutenanye vs Yohanna Global Title Bout. The World Boxing Organization (WBO) has confirmed that a rematch will take place between Namibian boxer Fillimon Nghutenanye and Tanzanian fighter Mchanja Yohanna following a successful appeal lodged by Nghutenanye’s camp.

The contested fight took place on 24 May 2025 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, where Yohanna was declared the winner and retained his WBO Global title. However, Nghutenanye’s manager, Metumo Imene, formally appealed to the WBO Global Control Board, arguing that the decision was unjust.

Following the appeal, the match was reviewed by five international judges, who concluded that Nghutenanye should have been awarded the victory. Based on these findings, the WBO ruled in favour of the Namibian camp, mandating a rematch.

The ruling further states that if the rematch does not occur within 120 days, Yohanna will be stripped of his title. In that case, Nghutenanye will be given the first opportunity to contest for the vacant belt.

This decision has reignited excitement in Namibia’s boxing community, as Nghutenanye now has a renewed chance to secure the WBO Global title. The rematch is expected to attract significant regional attention, highlighting both fighters’ determination and the WBO’s commitment to fairness in the sport.

The appeal outcome marks an important moment for Namibian boxing, offering Nghutenanye the opportunity to showcase his skills once again on the international stage while representing his country.
