India and Namibia Strengthen Ties with Key Agreements During Prime Minister Modi’s Visit. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has successfully wrapped up his State visit to Windhoek, Namibia, marking a significant step in deepening India’s engagement with African nations. The visit, part of his broader international outreach programme, focused on strengthening bilateral relations in strategic sectors including trade, energy, entrepreneurship, and healthcare.
During his stay, Prime Minister Modi held high-level talks with Namibian President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah at State House. The leaders witnessed the signing and exchange of three major agreements designed to enhance cooperation between the two nations.
The first, the Global Biofuels Framework Agreement (GBA), lays the foundation for collaboration in sustainable energy development, reflecting a shared commitment to cleaner, greener technologies.
Secondly, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the Establishment of an Entrepreneurship Development Centre (EDC) in Namibia was signed, aimed at equipping aspiring Namibian entrepreneurs with skills, mentorship, and business support through India’s experience in small business development.
The third agreement, a MoU on Cooperation in the Field of Health and Medicine, is set to bolster Namibia’s healthcare sector by fostering exchange in medical training, pharmaceutical supply, and public health policy.
Prime Minister Modi also took the opportunity to engage with members of the Indian diaspora in Namibia, highlighting their role as a bridge between the two nations.
Officials from both sides noted that the visit reflects the growing importance of Africa in India’s foreign policy and Namibia’s interest in diversifying strategic partnerships.
