Peter Shalulile Parts Ways with Mamelodi Sundowns, Becomes Free Agent After Scoring Century. Namibian international and star striker Peter Shalulile has officially parted ways with South African Premier Soccer League (PSL) champions Mamelodi Sundowns, making headlines across the region. The prolific forward has reportedly opted not to renew his contract, bringing an end to a standout chapter with the Pretoria-based club.
Shalulile, who recently made a public appearance in Windhoek playing futsal at SKW, leaves Sundowns after four highly productive seasons. He scored 100 goals in 105 appearances — 65 in the PSL and 35 in cup and continental competitions — becoming only the second player in Sundowns’ history to achieve this milestone, after Daniel Mudau.
No formal statement has been released by Sundowns regarding his departure, but multiple international outlets confirm that the 30-year-old has now entered free agency. His next move remains unconfirmed, though Sudanese club Al-Hilal SC and several Middle Eastern teams are reportedly interested. One unnamed club has reportedly tabled an offer valued close to US$600,000 (approx. N$11 million), making a move abroad increasingly likely.
Shalulile’s work ethic and professionalism have long been praised, and his exit has sparked debate within the football community. Namibian pundit Kavii Vezemburuka commented, “Shalulile has carried Sundowns for years. The recent sidelining felt unfair. Football can be brutal, even to its most loyal servants.”
He added that a brief break could benefit the player mentally and physically. “He’s still got a lot to give. Whether he explores offers from abroad or stays in the PSL with clubs like SuperSport United or Kaizer Chiefs, it’s a new era for him.”
