Bank Windhoek and City of Windhoek Join Forces to Equip SMEs with Financial Tools. In a joint effort to boost small business development, Bank Windhoek and the City of Windhoek hosted a targeted training session for approximately 30 small and medium enterprise (SME) owners in Katutura. The event, held at the Bokamoso Entrepreneurial Centre, aimed to provide participants with practical financial knowledge and tools to strengthen and grow their businesses.
The session opened with remarks from Ms. Leonora Joodt, Acting Manager for Economic Development at the City of Windhoek, who urged attendees to take full advantage of the opportunity. “Not everyone receives access to this kind of training,” she said, encouraging participants to apply the knowledge to their enterprises.
Representatives from Bank Windhoek — Clarissa Huisamen, Albert Daniel, and Jennifer Kamati — led the training, delivering presentations on financial products tailored to SMEs. They highlighted key themes such as financial discipline, strategic goal-setting, and the value of persistence. Referencing the humble beginnings of companies like Google Chrome and the local success story of Frans Indongo, the team illustrated how small ideas can evolve into major businesses.
The participants represented a diverse range of industries, including catering, taxi driving, upholstery, tailoring, fast food, and medical uniform supply.A key moment of the event was the unveiling of Bank Windhoek’s EasyPOS device — a compact, mobile card payment solution designed for small businesses. Particularly beneficial for taxi drivers, the device allows customers to make payments by simply tapping their bank cards, providing greater convenience and security.
The initiative reflects ongoing efforts by both the City and Bank Windhoek to foster entrepreneurship and financial inclusion, contributing to economic growth at the grassroots level.
