Witbooi’s journey to this esteemed position began in the rural south of Namibia, where she worked as a teacher near Karasburg and later in Gibeon. Her transition from education to politics saw her elected to the National Assembly in 2009 at the age of 49, securing the 34th spot on the Swapo Party’s list.
The announcement of her appointment was met with heartfelt celebrations from the Witbooi clan, who honored the legacy of national hero Kaptein Hendrik !Nanseb Witbooi through traditional praise songs. These songs highlighted the resilience and determination associated with their esteemed ancestor.
