Old Mutual Namibia Awards Bursaries to Future Actuaries

Old Mutual Namibia Awards Bursaries to Future Actuaries. Old Mutual Namibia has reaffirmed its commitment to education and skills development by awarding bursaries to six outstanding students pursuing Actuarial Science. The initiative aims to support academic excellence and nurture the next generation of financial professionals.

Three students, Haily Shipandeka, Oleksandra Makarenko, and Cecilia Kandowa, all first-year students at Stellenbosch University, received full bursaries covering tuition, accommodation, and other study-related expenses. Additionally, Demarscho Mouton (1st year), Secilia Nakapela (1st year), and Maximilian Hower (3rd year) were awarded partial bursaries to assist with tuition costs.

Mignon du Preez, Old Mutual Namibia’s Group Marketing, Public Affairs, and Sustainability Executive, highlighted the company’s commitment to developing actuarial talent. “Actuaries play a critical role in risk assessment, financial modelling, and long-term planning within the financial and insurance industries. By investing in these students, we are ensuring the profession’s future strength and preparing skilled professionals to tackle the industry’s evolving challenges,” she stated.

The bursary program has already demonstrated its impact. Since its inception, three students have benefited, with two now employed at Old Mutual Namibia and another continuing her studies at Stellenbosch University. This success underscores the program’s role in fostering highly skilled professionals for Namibia’s financial sector.

Recipients were selected based on academic performance, financial need, and other key criteria, ensuring that the support reaches those with both talent and determination.

“Old Mutual is proud to support these students on their academic journey and looks forward to seeing their contributions to Namibia’s financial sector in the future,” Du Preez concluded.
