Bremen Mayor Joins Windhoek in Mourning Late Founding President. The Mayor of Bremen, Dr. Andreas Bovenschulte, arrived in Windhoek today alongside a delegation to pay tribute to the late Founding President and Father of the Namibian Nation, Dr. Sam Nujoma. The delegation will attend both the memorial and funeral services, reflecting the strong ties between Windhoek and Bremen.

Dr. Bovenschulte is accompanied by H.E. Dr. Thorsten Hutter, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany, as well as Mike Schroeder, Personal Assistant to the Mayor, and Stefan Hoess from the German Embassy. Their presence underscores the long-standing friendship between the two cities, which dates back to Namibia’s liberation struggle, when Bremen expressed.

The relationship between Windhoek and Bremen was formally strengthened on 24 September 2024, when the cities signed a Sister City Agreement. This partnership aims to foster cultural, economic, and developmental cooperation between the two municipalities

Bremen’s participation in the state memorial service highlights the enduring bond between Germany and Namibia, built on historical support and continued collaboration. The visit serves as a demonstration of international solidarity during this period of mourning.

As Namibia honours Dr. Sam Nujoma’s legacy, the presence of international delegations reflects his impact as a leader and unifier. The ongoing partnership between Windhoek and Bremen is a testament to shared values and mutual respect between the two cities.
