NamWater Reports Positive Inflows Boost Namibia’s Dam Levels. According to the latest bulletin from the Namibia Water Corporation (NamWater), several major dams in the country have experienced significant improvements in water levels, thanks to positive inflows from recent rainfall.
NamWater reported that the Hardap Dam saw a substantial rise in water levels, with 21.615 million cubic meters (Mm³) of additional water flowing into the dam, bringing it to a capacity of 22.1%. This comes after a period of reduced irrigation supplies due to previous low levels. Similarly, the Neckartal Dam saw a gain of 0.727 Mm³, increasing its capacity to 79.8%.
The report also highlighted improvements in several other dams across Namibia:Swakoppoort Dam: Increased by 1.955 Mm³, now at 27.4%.Von Bach Dam: Gained 0.840 Mm³, reaching 26.3%.Omatako Dam: Saw an increase of 0.392 Mm³, reaching 5.3%.Friedenau Dam: Added 0.043 Mm³, bringing it to 46.8%.Otjivero Silt Dam: Increased by 0.079 Mm³, reaching 2.7%.Naute Dam: Saw an inflow of 4.093 Mm³, bringing it to 31.9%.Oanob Dam: Increased by 0.177 Mm³, now at 33.4%.
NamWater also confirmed that the Swakoppoort to Von Bach Dam water transfer commenced on February 9, 2025, to help support the water needs of Windhoek and nearby regions.
