72 Learners Progress to Second Round of 2025 Bank Windhoek Coastal Maths Challenge. A total of 1,079 students from 13 coastal schools recently participated in the 2025 Bank Windhoek Coastal Maths Challenge, testing their mathematical problem-solving skills. The competition, which included multiple-choice questions, aimed to foster mathematical proficiency among students in grades 8, 9, and 10. Following the first round, 72 students, selected based on their performance, have advanced to the second round. The competition is divided into two clusters: Walvis Bay and Swakopmund, with each cluster sending 36 learners.

Magret Courtney-Clarke of Orison Educational Services emphasized the goal of the challenge, which is to encourage problem-solving skills and expose learners to mathematics in an engaging way. For the second round, students will face individual and team challenges, including a Speed Test, Multiple-Choice Test, and Team Test. The second round will take place on April 9th at Namib High School in Swakopmund.

Notably, learners from government schools, such as Kuisebmond Secondary School, Namib High School, and Flamingo High School, performed well, with several students advancing to the next stage of the competition. In addition to individual prizes, the best-performing teams and individuals will be awarded medals, and the Best Performing School will receive the Bank Windhoek Trophy.

This annual event not only promotes a love for mathematics but also creates an environment where learners and teachers can engage in problem-solving activities. It highlights the importance of math in education while encouraging healthy competition and collaboration among students. The second round will determine the ultimate winners, who will be recognized for their outstanding performance.
